Moya in the communityAlthough Moya is presently based it the UK, its founders Moesha and Jonathan have their roots firmly placed back in Swaziland. We strongly believe it is important to put something back into this world. We were therefore very keen to support a small organisation in Swaziland whereby our contributions could have a significant and meaningful impact on people’s lives. This is where we came across the Moya Centre – it was such a bizarre and amazing coincidence to have the same name we decided to look a bit further. And without hesitation we knew that this was an organisation that we wanted to help. The Moya Community Healing Centre (MCHC) has been running for four years and is run by a Trust and based in Mahlanya, a community in Swaziland. MCHC are entirely funded by donations and do not charge for any of its services. They aim to empower and support communities towards good health, engender a collective spirit of responsibility, teach life skills including HIV/AIDS related knowledge, assist communities in the care of parentless children and provide support and safety for those in need. Their philosophy is one of supporting and working through traditional social structures for a sustainable improvement in quality of life. They prioritise the sharing of knowledge, skills and experiences between communities and themselves with a continual emphasis on community responsibility and action in support of those most acutely affected by the epidemic.
